Protect Museum Employees from Furloughs and Layoffs

Due to the financial crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, museum directors, boards and administrations across the county are attempting to  balance their books on the backs of their loyal employees through layoffs and furloughs.

Museums are civic institutions and public resources, and museum finances should reflect a sense of civic responsibility. Retaining museum workers and finding other ways to balance the books is both the right decision and the smart decision for the future of museums.

About Cultural Workers United

We represent employees at the Library of Congress, the New York Public Library, the MET, the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in L.A. (MOCA), the Museum of Tolerance, the American Museum of Natural History, the Milwaukee Public Museum, the Detroit Historical Society, and many others across the country. AFSCME represents members in botanical gardens, zoos, planetariums, science centers, museums, libraries and other cultural institutions such as the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, and the New York Aquarium.

AFSCME stands strong behind cultural workers fighting for better working conditions, pay, and scheduling.
