Anti-union extremists in the current administration are advancing devastating cuts to public services so they can give tax breaks to billionaires. These reckless cuts will harm our communities — working families, retirees and those most vulnerable — and threaten our jobs.

Over 33% of all states’ budgets are supported by federal funding, with some states receiving as much as 50% of their budget from the federal government. While cultural institutions vary on how much they rely on direct federal funding, the effects these cuts will have on state and local budgets will have ripple effects that will impact all cultural workers.

WE’RE GETTING ORGANIZED TO FIGHT BACK.

As cultural workers, our role in fighting back against these harmful budget cuts, layoffs and attacks on our work is critical. We are the protectors, leaders and innovators in shaping our nation’s cultural values. We won’t let these cuts challenge the infrastructure that supports our cultural expression, economic opportunity and community well-being.

That’s why AFSCME filed a lawsuit with the American Library Association to stop the administration from shutting the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences and protect funding for our workplaces. And we’re putting pressure on Congress to stop them from passing extreme cuts to public services all to give billionaires massive tax breaks.

Our power as cultural workers depends on how strongly we stand together. We’re talking to our co-workers about getting active. We’re connecting with other cultural workers about joining us and becoming part of the largest organizing movement for cultural workers. We're strengthening our collective power and getting organized to protect our democracy.

TOGETHER, WE'RE NOT JUST FIGHTING BACK.
WE'RE FIGHTING FOR A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL OF US.
